On Saturday August 12th Ex GWR 4-6-0 6024 King Edward 1 heads the westbound Torbay Express past the Teignmouth shipyards near Shalford Bridge |
The bridge at Shalford is a good location for morning shots taken of trains heading west |
6024 was in full flight and spot on time as it hurries along towards Paignton. |
Interestingly the train is not carrying the Torbay Express headboard. |
The view looking up the River Teign would be ideal for eastbound shots later in the day |
I was unable to get back to Kingswear in time to capture the King's arrival there but I was there for the early evening departure |
Following arrival at Kingswear the engine is turned on the Churston turntable and fed and watered at Paignton. The engine then returns tender first to Kingswear about 30mins before departure |
6024 backs onto it's train at Kingswear |
The magnificent views across the River Dart taken from above the station |
By this time a large crowd gathers on the platform. Many of these passengers are returning to Bristol but passengers are also waiting for the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam railway service to Paignton. |
EX GWR 4-6-0 7827 Lydham Manor runs round it's train at Kingswear whilst 6024 simmers gently at the head of the return Torbay Express. It reminds me of those long gone summer saturdays back in the 50's |
A convenient footpath runs along the line from Kingswear station and here 6024 departs for Bristol |
As is usual on these occasions the sun which had been shining all afternoon decided to hide just as the train leaves! |
Still no Torbay Express headboard,I wonder why? |
The coaching stock is a bit of a mixture, still you can't have everything! |
6024's exhaust echoes round the valley, you will have to take my word for that though. |
A bright and sunny day dawned on sunday 13th August and this time I left Dartmouth in plenty of time to get to Dawlish to see the King.My location was the hill known as Lea Mount . |
This location which can be reached by footpath over the footbridge to the south of Dawlish Station. The train was being filmed from a helicopter top right of picture |
This stretch of line along this magnificent coastline is spectacular and should not be missed. Next time I visit I intend to travel along it. |
Once again 6024 was on time and looked and sounded magnificent as it sped through Dawlish Station |
6024 is greeted by clicking shutters as it heads towards the tunnel just beyond the footbridge |
Back at Kingswear the sun still stubbornly refuses to shine as 6024 returns from Paignton |
Today the engine carries the Torbay Express headboard. The town of Kingswear makes a fine backdrop to this magnificent engine |
As 6024 departs for Bristol over the small bridge at Kingswear the Torbay Express headboard can be seen with the addition of the words Brunel 200! |
